Friday (20/9/2024), Dean of the Faculty of Law UGM, represented by Deputy Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems, Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A., signed the Partnership Agreement with Sleman Election Supervisory Agency. This collaboration was aimed to strengthen the Sleman’s Regional Election oversight through an academic collaboration and public participation.
The PKS signing also witnessed by several sectors from Regional Election Supervisory volunteer, marked the joint commitment to implement a clean, honest, and fair Regional Election. This agreement was an initiated by the Pusat Kajian Demokrasi, Konstitusi, dan HAM (PANDEKHA) FH UGM, Caksana Institute, and Sleman Election Supervisory Agency.
This collaboration was aimed to push the participative supervision, with the main focus on mitigating the money politics practice in 2024 Sleman’s Regional Election. This intiative was aligned with the 16th goal of SDGs that emphasized the importance of peace, justice, and strong institutions.
As a part in realizing this collaboration, PANDEKHA with the partners have planned the peaceful Regional Election and the legal education on anti-money politics in 5 villages in Sleman, those were Sardonoharjo, Candibinangun, Trimulyo, Ambarketawang, and Sendangsari. This event was expected to improve more knowledge and build a commitment to implement a clean and peaceful Regional Election.

Vide-Dean of Research, Community Service, and Information System Faculty of Law, UGM, Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana, S.H., LL.M., M.A, explained that this partnership is concrete form of one of the Three Pillars of Higher Education, which was the serving the community. Faculty of Law UGM constantly committed to involved in important issues that related with democracy and justice, including the election supervision.
The Chairman of the Sleman Election Supervisory Agency, Arjuna Al Ichsan Siregar explained that this partnership was expected to engage several public sectors to actively participate in the participative 2024 Regional Election oversight. Through this partnership, it is hoped that the election will be more transparent and accountable, and not involving any practices of money politics.
