Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. just conducted an open doctoral defense in Faculty of Law Universitas Gadjah Mada with the research entitled “Reformulation of Restorative Justice in Resolving Economic Crime” on Monday (24/06/2024). In this doctoral promotion, the Chair of the Examination Committee was Adrianto Dwi Nugroho, S.H., Adv.LL.M., LL.D.; the Promoter was Prof. Dr. Marcus Priyo Gunarto, S.H., M.Hum.; the Co-Promoter was Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D.; and the Examination Committee Members consisted of Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M(HR)., Ph.D., Irna Nurhayati, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Ph.D., and Prof. Simon Butt, B.A., LL.B., Ph.D.
In this open doctoral defense, Fatahillah Akbar argued that in the context of law enforcement in the field of economy, the one that should be prioritized is the economic compensation. But on the practice, through the 21 court decisions, majority of them emphasize on the primum remidium although the losses that caused is considered huge. This implied to the decrease of the investment interest in Indonesia. Arising from that, Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar on his dissertation recommended the reformulation for the regulation relating to economic crime, where the restorative justice introduced in the level of law that prioritize the compensation and other dispute resolution outside the court.
In this open doctoral defense, Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar successfully defended his research results satisfactorily and was declared to have graduated with an A grade and cum laudepredicate. It is hereby announced that Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. is the 269th Doctor to pass the exam at the UGM Faculty of Law and is the 6218th Doctor to graduate at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
