The Department of Islamic Law Discusses Islamic Marriage Law in a Legal Counseling Session in Panggungharjo Village, Sewon, Bantul

The Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), through the Department of Islamic Law, held a Legal Counseling session on the topic "Islamic Marriage Law: Early Marriage, Premarital Pregnancy, and Guardianship." The session took place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. WIB. The in-person legal counseling session took place in the Panggungharjo Village Hall, Sewon Subdistrict, Bantul Regency. 

The session was attended by 60 participants, including community leaders, village officials, village heads, and members of the Panggungharjo Village Family Consultation Clinic. The legal counseling session was held to realize community service as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) and to realize the 16th SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) by creating a peaceful and inclusive society and strong village institutions, particularly with regard to law enforcement. 

This legal outreach activity featured Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si., Dr. Hartini, S.H. M.Si., and Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni, S.H., M.S.I., lecturers from the Department of Islamic Law, as resource persons, who presented the dynamics of Islamic law from a theoretical-academic perspective. Also present at the event was the Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Executive Board (PWNU) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, KH. Dr. Ahmad Zuhdi Muhdlor, S.H., M.Hum., in his capacity as a former judge at the Yogyakarta Religious Court, who presented the dynamics of Islamic marriage law from a practical perspective.  

On that occasion, Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab presented an introductory presentation on Islamic marriage law. Dr. Hartini and Dr. Destri Budi Nugraheni provided feedback during the discussion and question-and-answer session. The Q&A session was interactive, with participants fielding a variety of questions, covering issues related to premarital marriage, domestic neglect, and polygamy. 

On that occasion, the Head of Government Affairs and Administration of Panggungharjo Village, M. Ali Yahya, S.H., expressed his gratitude to the Department of Islamic Law, Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, for organizing the Legal Counseling in Panggungharjo Village. He explained that the diverse family law issues in Panggungharjo Village have led the village to establish the Panggungharjo Village Family Consultation Clinic, which is expected to become a leading voice in facilitating the resolution of family problems. 

This type of activity is essential for the community, especially to equip the Panggungharjo Family Clinic cadres for their future duties. The Legal Counseling session concluded with a group photo and a friendly gathering. Participants enthusiastically participated in and listened to the material presented by the speakers.
