On May 5, 2023, the DEMA Mengajar program, organized by the Justicia Student Council of the UGM Faculty of Law, officially kicked off. This year, DEMA Mengajar is being held at Salamrejo Public Elementary School in Merdikorejo Village, Tempel Subdistrict, Sleman Regency. The theme of the program is “Building Motivation, Pursuing Tomorrow’s Dreams.” DEMA Mengajar is carried out by 12 volunteers from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts of the Faculty of Law. The program will run until May 26, 2023, with teaching sessions held twice a week.
DEMA Mengajar is an educational program for elementary school students in grades 1–5, featuring non-formal learning materials and English language instruction. The teaching and learning process employs a “fun learning” approach. The purpose of DEMA Mengajar is to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, specifically in the aspect of community service. This program serves as a platform for UGM Faculty of Law students to engage in community service by serving on the organizing committee and as volunteers for DEMA Mengajar.
Additionally, DEMA Mengajar is one of the programs under the auspices of the UGM Faculty of Law’s partner village, implemented to advance one of the village’s key development priorities: education. Furthermore, the shortage of teaching staff at Salamrejo Public Elementary School was a primary reason for selecting this location for the 2023 DEMA Mengajar program.
