FH UGM Delegation Wins 1st Place at the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition (IHL MCC) National Rounds 2022

A delegation from FH UGM, guided by UGM's Community of International Moot Court (CIMC UGM), once again brought honor to UGM by winning 1st Place at the IHL MCC, held from Saturday, November 12 through Sunday, November 20, 2022. 

IHL MCC 2022 was organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross Universitas Airlangga. The competition had two stages: the Preliminary Rounds , held online on November 12–13, 2022, and the Advanced Rounds , held in person at Universitas Airlangga from November 18–20, 2022. Before the Preliminary Rounds, a memo-selection process narrowed the pool of registering universities down to the 16 with the highest scores. The Preliminary Rounds then consisted of two oral pleading stages.‎ The next stage, the Advanced Rounds , involved the 8 universities with the highest scores from the previous stage. Advanced Rounds consists of Quarter-final Round, Semi-final Round, and Final Round. FH UGM's delegation advanced through every stage of IHL MCC 2022 and was named Champion Team.

The case scenario for IHL MCC 2022 centered on environmental crime, an area of law that had not previously been addressed by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The scenario presented a challenging case involving the deaths of 5 UN personnel and 170 civilians.

FH UGM's delegation for IHL MCC 2022 consisted of 5 team members: Axel Darian Darwin (class of 2020), Rachelle Amadea R N Tan (class of 2021), Gracella Chafrina (class of 2021), Naufal Farras Rayyan (class of 2020), and Raihan Khrisna Amalia (class of 2020); along with 2 managers, Amanda Yovina (class of 2021) and Yulia Theresa (class of 2021). The delegation was also guided by 2 coaches, Dylan Jesse Adrian (class of 2020) and Fairuz El-Mechwar (class of 2019), as well as a supervising lecturer, Fajri Matahati Muhammadin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. 

Following this achievement, the CIMC UGM delegation to IHL MCC expressed thanks to everyone who helped, supported, guided, and prayed for the team as they worked to achieve this result and bring honor to UGM.
