UGM Faculty of Law Delegation Claims Third Place at NLOC 2024

The Harjono Delegation from the UGM Faculty of Law secured a remarkable third-place finish at the National Legal Opinion Competition (NLOC) 2024, organized by the Moot Court Community (KPS FH Unair) in collaboration with the Student Executive Board (BEM FH Unair) of the Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Law.

The Harjono Delegation consisted of two students from the 2023 cohort who had only recently entered their third semester, yet had already demonstrated their legal reasoning skills on the national stage. The delegation was led by Yonathan Kevin Alvianto as head delegate, alongside Glenn Bintang as a member of the delegation.

The competition, which was participated in by 35 teams from leading universities such as the University of Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya, and Universitas Diponegoro, carried the overarching theme of “Law Enforcement in the Resolution of Electoral Disputes.” In the case position provided, delegates were tasked with resolving a regional election dispute involving a legislative candidate implicated in a corruption case. The central question raised was whether the candidate’s political rights could simply be revoked. In response, the legal consultants from each delegation were required to present legal arguments addressing the issue.

The competition was conducted in two rounds. During the preliminary round, participants were required to prepare a legal opinion document containing their legal analysis of the case position provided. Team Harjono demonstrated excellence through comprehensive and solution-oriented legal arguments, earning third place in the preliminary submission stage. This achievement secured their place in the final round.

During the final round held on Saturday (29/09/2024) at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, the Harjono Delegation successfully presented their analysis and proposed solutions regarding the electoral dispute case before the panel of judges, ultimately securing third place overall in the competition.

The Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada takes pride in having students who are both critical and confident in participating in national-level competitions. Despite only being in their third semester, members of the Harjono Delegation were able to compete successfully against students from other universities, many of whom were likely more senior and experienced.
