This victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication in addressing contemporary legal issues.
The theme of this competition is “Legal Implications of Artificial Intelligence Implementation: Creating a Legal Framework and Regulations for the Role of Artificial Intelligence within the Indonesian Legal System.” This theme is highly relevant as it encourages participants to engage in discussions, share ideas, and formulate concrete steps to develop a national legal framework capable of addressing rapid advancements in AI technology.
The competition consists of two main phases: the Document Screening Round and the Final Round. The CLS delegation successfully advanced to the Final Round after demonstrating outstanding performance in the preliminary phase, which took place online from October 25 to November 15, 2024. Their legislative proposal titled “Artificial Intelligence” showcased their innovative approach to legal regulation in the context of AI.
Under the guidance of their coach, Andi Sitti Ainy (2022), and official Kristina Wahyuni Iskandar (2023), as well as supervising lecturer Virga Dwi Efendi, S.H., LL.M., the UGM delegation was well-prepared to present their work before the SSUI 2024 judging panel. Their comprehensive understanding of legislative drafting and the implications of AI in law played a crucial role in their success.
The final round took place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, and concluded with the announcement of the winners on Sunday, December 1, 2024. The event was attended by various legal scholars, practitioners, and students, all of whom were eager to witness the innovative ideas presented by the participants.
Participating in the SSUI 2024 competition was a highly valuable experience for the CLS delegation. It not only allowed them to represent UGM but also provided a platform to engage with pressing legal issues surrounding AI. The skills and knowledge gained from this experience are expected to benefit the participants in the future.
The success of the UGM delegation highlights the importance of education in fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. By addressing contemporary issues such as AI, educational institutions can prepare future legal professionals to navigate the complexities of modern law.
This achievement also reflects the UGM Faculty of Law’s commitment to advancing education and the legal framework in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the area of quality education. The delegation’s work contributes to the broader goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
