CTRL UGM and Hukumonline Discuss the Implementation of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Legal Research

The rapid development ofGenerative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in recent years has attracted public attention, including among academics and legal practitioners. GenAI-based platforms are increasingly being used, including for legal research. In response to this phenomenon, the Center for Law, Technology, RegTech, and LegalTech Studies Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (CTRL UGM), in collaboration with Hukumonline, held a Research Dissemination and Limited Seminar entitled "Implementation of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Legal Research" at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, on Friday (November 1, 2024).

Introducing the event, the Executive Director of CTRL UGM, Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M. Hum., LL.M., stated that this event marks a turning point in the recognition that technological developments must be a "friend" of the law.

"Law is a reflection of social reality, so law will always exist alongside technological developments. Technology will certainly always prevail when paired with law, but law will always exist and act as a legal barrier that limits technology," said Wahyu Yun Santoso.

Meanwhile, Hukumonline's Chief Content Officer, Robert Sidauruk, S.H., M.B.L., introduced ASK Hukumonline as GenAI, a solution that can improve access to legal information services with a high level of accuracy.

"GenAI should not be viewed merely as a trendbut as an essential technology that transforms work in the legal field. Therefore, ASK Hukumonline plays a role as an innovation in improving access to legal information services with a high level of accuracy and can even surpass the passing grade of the PKPA Exam," Robert explained.
