FH UGM and LPKA DIY Conduct Community Service Through Public Education Broadcasts On The Protection Of Children's Rights As A Result Of Their Parents' Divorce

Yogyakarta, 10 Februari 2026 – The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), through its Legal Consultation and Assistance Center (PKBH), collaborated with Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) Yogyakarta to broadcast a legal information program entitled “Pro Justicia: Protecting Children's Rights in the Event of Their Parents' Divorce.” This broadcast aims to provide insight to the public regarding the rights of children that should be fulfilled and protected, as well as their relevance to divorce and the guidance provided by the LPKA in the context of guiding children who are in conflict with the law. This activity provides an overview of the reality of the LPKA's handling of children in conflict with the law in ensuring their rights, as well as the reality of the fulfillment of children's rights by their parents.

The speakers in this broadcast included academics and practitioners who directly handle related cases, namely Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.Si. as the Head of the Legal Consultation and Assistance Center at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, and Fathurrohman Hardian Nugraha, S. Tr. PAS., M.H., as Head of the Education and Community Guidance Sub-Section of the Yogyakarta Class II Special Child Guidance Institution.

Dr. Yulkarnain Harahab, S.H., M.H., conveyed the rights of children that must be fulfilled or guaranteed based on national law. These rights must still be fulfilled even if the parents are divorced. Therefore, divorce should not be a barrier to fulfilling the basic rights of a child, such as the right to protection, the right to grow and develop, and so on.

Fathurrohman Hardian Nugraha, S. Tr. PAS., M.H. shared his insight that the fulfillment of children's rights at the LPKA, even though they are in conflict with the law, is the same as for other children who are not in conflict with the law. In addition, both speakers discussed the relevance of divorce's influence on a child's growth and the possibility that divorce could have a negative impact, pushing children towards juvenile delinquency and ultimately leading them into conflict with the law. Although not many cases of juvenile delinquency are caused by divorce, it is important to note that this possibility still exists and needs to be understood and anticipated.

The legal information broadcast conducted by the two speakers was in line with the points of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that support sustainability and community service. The legal education broadcast activity was based on SDG point 4 on Quality Education through increasing the community's legal knowledge about children's rights and its relevance to parental divorce.

In addition to point 4, this activity refers to SDG point 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by realizing community education efforts to primarily support justice for children who are in a vulnerable position in this topic. Furthermore, community service through this broadcast also supports the realization of SDG point 17 regarding collaborative synergy between various institutions because the existence of this broadcast is based on cooperation between FH UGM through PKBH and TVRI Yogyakarta to achieve the goal of disseminating legal knowledge to the entire community.
