The Doctoral Program in Law (PDIH) at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), held an orientation event for new students on Friday (August 15, 2025) at Building IV of FH UGM. This event was part of the FH UGM Graduate Program’s Inaugural Lecture Series for the 2025–2026 Academic Year, themed “Exploring the Legal Education Curriculum to Foster Legal Professionals of Integrity in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
The orientation was led by Prof. M. Hawin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., as the Program Chair, who provided a comprehensive overview of the PDIH’s academic vision, curriculum structure, graduate learning outcomes (GLOs), as well as research mechanisms and dissertation writing. Also present at the event was Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., the Program Secretary, who introduced the academic services, administrative procedures, and support available to students throughout their doctoral studies.
For the 2025/2026 academic year, the Doctoral Program in Legal Studies has admitted 10 new students who successfully passed a rigorous selection process. Their presence reflects the high standards of the PDIH’s academic selection process and demonstrates the Faculty of Law at UGM’s commitment to producing competent legal researchers and scholars of integrity who are capable of contributing to the development of legal scholarship at both the national and international levels.
This orientation program not only served as an introduction to the academic system but also as a means to foster initial interactions between new students and program administrators. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active engagement, as they asked questions about research directions, publication opportunities, and potential research collaborations with faculty members.
Furthermore, this orientation activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive, research-based advanced legal education, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through an emphasis on the values of justice, academic ethics, and transparent research governance. Thus, PDIH FH UGM further solidifies its role as a center of excellence in the development of legal science in Indonesia.
