"Suluh Praja" Legal Counseling in Kalurahan Piyaman Successfully Discusses Intellectual Property Rights and ITE Law

On Thursday (5/9/24), the "Suluh Praja" legal counseling was successfully held at the Kalurahan Piyaman Hall, Wonosari District, Gunung Kidul. This event was a collaboration between the Faculty of Law UGM through the Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH) and the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor's Office. The main goal of the counseling was to provide legal insights and knowledge to the participants, including village officials and the surrounding community, on common legal issues.

This edition of Suluh Praja raised the theme "Intellectual Property Rights and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law)". The theme was chosen to offer an understanding of the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights as well as the regulations in the ITE Law.

The event began with an opening speech by the Head of Kalurahan Piyaman, Tugino, S.Pd. Following that, a team from the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor's Office provided an introduction and explained the duties and functions of the civil and administrative sectors of the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office.

The first session was delivered by Prof. M. Hawin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., a Professor of Business Law at the UGM Faculty of Law, who discussed "Intellectual Property Rights." He explained various aspects of intellectual property protection in Indonesia, including registration procedures. The second speaker, Dr. Sigid Riyanto, S.H., M.Si., also from the UGM Faculty of Law, covered the topic "ITE Law," providing insights into important aspects of the law, particularly relevant for village officials.

The sessions were presented interactively, sparking active discussions between the participants and speakers. One participant, for instance, asked about the possibility of registering Piyaman’s signature dish, Bakmi Jawa, as an Intellectual Property product, given its uniqueness in Kalurahan Piyaman. The speakers responded clearly and offered practical solutions.

This legal counseling is expected to strengthen the community in creating an inclusive and peaceful environment. Additionally, the event supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goal 16, which focuses on peace, justice, and strong institutions, starting from village-level governance and SDG 17, focusing on partnerships to achieve these goals.
