Talkshow: Weaving Dreams Beyond Horizons with Students and Alumni

On August 1, 2024, the Auditorium of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) was filled with eager students and esteemed alumni for a talk show titled "Weaving Dreams Beyond Horizons." The event aimed to inspire current law students by sharing experiences and insights from successful alumni, emphasizing the importance of education and decent work in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The talk show was moderated by Irnandini Putri Imroatus Sholihah, who opened the event by highlighting the significance of education in shaping future leaders. She emphasized that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about developing skills that are essential for decent work in the legal field. The audience was excited to hear from the distinguished speakers who had once walked the same halls as they did.

The first speaker, Rachell Amadea Roselynn Nikita Tan, a high-achieving student at UGM, shared her journey through the Faculty of Law. Rachell discussed the dynamics of being a law student, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence and the pursuit of achievements during college. She recounted her experiences working in various law firms, where she learned the practical applications of her studies and the skills necessary for a successful legal career.

Following Rachell, Pina Saphira, an alumna from the class of 2011, took the stage. Pina shared her experiences as a Corporate & Litigation Lawyer, detailing the challenges she faced and the skills she developed throughout her career. She encouraged students to embrace their education and strive to become contributing alumni who can make a positive impact on society and their alma mater. Pina's insights resonated with the audience, as she highlighted the importance of resilience and adaptability in the legal profession.

The final speaker, Bagir Bintang Bahana, an alumnus from the class of 2000, captivated the audience with his experiences as a diplomat. Bagir discussed the unique challenges he encountered in his career and the essential skills that law students should cultivate to succeed in diplomacy. He emphasized the role of education in preparing students for diverse career paths and encouraged them to think beyond traditional legal roles.

Throughout the talk show, the speakers collectively underscored the importance of education in achieving decent work, aligning with the SDGs. They shared personal anecdotes that illustrated how their education at UGM equipped them with the necessary tools to navigate their respective fields successfully. The audience was engaged, asking questions and seeking advice on how to maximize their time at university.
