As Final Exams Begin, the Faculty of Law Once Again Offers Free Breakfast to Students

Breakfast is often the meal that people overlook, especially when they’re pressed for time. Yet breakfast offers many benefits for the body. The importance of fueling up in the morning is one of the reasons the UGM Faculty of Law provides free breakfast to students during the final exam period.

“This free breakfast is provided to help students meet their nutritional needs while preparing for their final exams. This allows students to focus better and tackle their exams with more energy, free from hunger,” explained Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., Dean of the UGM Faculty of Law. The Special Free Breakfast program is a regular initiative organized by the Dean’s Office during this period.

The proposed Special Free Breakfast program provides breakfast for 200 undergraduate and graduate students. Students simply need to come to the lobby of Building 4 or the lobby of Building B and show proof of participation in the final exams for that period. Breakfast is usually available starting at 7:00 a.m. until supplies run out. The menu offered is varied so that students do not get bored with the breakfast provided.

Students also feel that the Special Free Breakfast program has been a great help. “This breakfast has really helped me, especially when I have exams at 8:00 a.m. and don’t have time to eat breakfast at home. Thanks to the breakfast provided by the Faculty of Law, I can take my exams with a clear mind because my stomach is full,” said Pramita Putri Rahmadhani, a student from the class of 2021.

Much like Pramita, Fadhila Ardianti also expressed how much she has benefited from this free breakfast. Especially, she noted, since many students skip breakfast during exam periods. The 2020 graduate, who recently graduated last May, hopes this program will continue in the years to come.

Fadhila also shared her first experience picking up breakfast back in 2022, during the first in-person final exams held after the COVID-19 pandemic. “I remember my first time getting breakfast the most. At the time, my exam happened to be in Building 4, and it turned out there was still plenty of breakfast left. So I took some. And wow, it tasted really good. The breakfast menu that day was a ricebowl with shrimp. Eventually, I got hooked on claiming the breakfast benefit. Thank you, Faculty of Law!”

In addition to providing free breakfast for students during the final exam period, the Dean’s Office also organizes a communal breakfast program for faculty and staff. This communal breakfast is held every Friday throughout the year. In addition to aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), this program is expected to foster a sense of togetherness and camaraderie among faculty and staff. The communal breakfast also serves as a platform for communication among faculty and staff.
