The Faculty of Law of UGM opened its PPSMB Kolaborasi 2022 orientation program for new students on Wednesday, August 3. The name "Kolaborasi" (Collaboration) was chosen because incoming students, referred to as "Justicia Muda,” come from diverse regions with different ethnicities, religions, and backgrounds, who will ultimately grow and learn together within the Faculty of Law community.
PPSMB Kolaborasi 2022's overarching theme was "Young Intellectual Collaboration Strengthening Social Solidarity in Facing Digital Transformation." Through this theme, new students as young intellectuals were encouraged to keep pace with digital developments while also strengthening social solidarity and sensitivity.
The program opened with an Opening Ceremony held on the ceremonial field, attended by Faculty leadership. After the symbolic opening by Faculty leaders, co-cards were ceremonially placed on M. Arva Sagraha, representing regular-track students, and Nadien Anindya Hasan, representing International Undergraduate Program (IUP) students.
The program continued with a "Getting to Know FH UGM" session in the Auditorium of Building B, introducing students to the Faculty's leadership, undergraduate departments, and academic staff.
In this session, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., advised, "A student's main focus should not be on being an activist to the point of forgetting their duties. Always remember what a student's primary duty is. However, do not be a student who goes home immediately after lectures; join various campus activities so that you can continue to hone your soft skills.”
Similarly, the Head of the Undergraduate Law Program, Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., encouraged new students to make the most of their time at university, cautioning against becoming students who only focus on books and studying, noting there's much to be gained outside of class hours.
The program then moved into a public lecture featuring Dr. Rahmat Dwi Putranto, S.H., M.H., and Najwa Shihab, S.H., LL.M., moderated by M. Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M. The session drew strong engagement, with many students eager to ask questions.
Both speakers emphasized that social media offers today's best platform for having one's voice heard, with information being key. They noted that accessing information isn't difficult for young people today, and that armed with fact-based information, students shouldn't be afraid to speak up — since if everyone stays silent out of fear, no one will be the one to spark change in the country.
Participants then took part in a focus group discussion led by FH UGM lecturers, themed "Expressing Your Ideas Through Legal Writing." Students were divided into smaller groups to ensure everyone could actively participate in the discussion.
PPSMB Kolaborasi 2022's first day closed with a tour de faculty of the Faculty of Law campus grounds.
