“You now hold your diploma and academic transcript. They are evidence of what you have achieved throughout your time at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM). I believe that many people have supported you in earning this diploma, especially your parents or guardians, siblings, friends, perhaps your partners, or even former partners who supported you along the way. Never forget those who have contributed to your journey, and always remain humble.”
Those were the words of Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., Dean of FH UGM, in his address at the Farewell Ceremony for Graduates of the First Period of the 2016/2017 Academic Year. The event was held on Wednesday (16/11) at Building I, FH UGM. The ceremony opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., followed by the singing of Indonesia Raya and the Gadjah Mada Hymn. The event continued with the presentation of academic transcripts to the graduates and several speeches.
Akhmad Fakhrizal was recorded as the graduate with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA), achieving 3.98 after completing his studies in four years and two months. Akhmad also represented the graduates in delivering a speech. “We would like to thank the lecturers of FH UGM for sharing their knowledge with us, enabling us all to graduate from this beloved faculty. May Allah SWT reward them for their dedication. The joy of graduation is only a small part of the blessings bestowed upon us by God Almighty. I encourage us all to remain grateful. Indeed, when we are grateful, God Almighty will surely grant us even greater blessings,” Akhmad Fakhrizal said in his speech.
In addition to achieving the highest GPA, Akhmad Fakhrizal was joined by Helda Shantyabudi as the fastest graduate, completing her studies in three years, one month, and 22 days. A total of 75 students graduated in this period, consisting of 36 men and 39 women. Of these, 24 graduated cum laude, 38 received the very satisfactory distinction, and the remaining five received the satisfactory distinction.
The graduates also gained a new form of wealth in the form of academic qualifications. “Your diploma is proof that you have acquired new wealth: an academic qualification as a Bachelor of Laws from FH UGM. This wealth is intangible. When tangible wealth is shared, it decreases. However, when knowledge is shared, it does not diminish; God willing, it will only grow,” Prof. Sigit Riyanto explained in his speech.
The farewell ceremony concluded with a prayer led by Dr. Yukarnain Harahap, S.H., M.Si., and was formally closed by Prof. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., with an expression of gratitude, alhamdulillah. (Irzi)
