Study Center of Law, Gender and Society
The establishment of the Study Center of Law, Gender, and Society Faculty of Law UGM is initiated after the Master of Law Study Program (MIH). LGS is formed as the interaction space between the academic community, both lecturers and students, with various communities. This space is expected to become the forum for strengthening and developing legal studies that are based on real issues and necessities within society. LGS is also expected to be the technique for students to recognize the situation outside of the campus that later will be their area of work.
Using the perspective of gender-sensitive legal based on society’s needs, especially for women and communities that are prone to discrimination, LGS is formed to push the awakening of critical, creative, and solutive thinking on laws and situations that develop within the state and society. On the other hand, LGS is also expected to be able to become a driving force for the development of laws and policies that protect the community, especially women and other groups vulnerable to discrimination.
