The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH), in collaboration with TVRI Yogyakarta, once again organized a legal education broadcast under the talk show program “Pro Justicia.” This edition raised the theme “Addressing Drug Abuse: Between Law Enforcement and Social Approaches.” The program aims to provide the public with insights into the dangers of drug abuse while exploring how it is addressed through both legal enforcement and social approaches. In addition, the program also invited the Regional Police of Yogyakarta Special Region (Polda DIY) to share preventive efforts, especially among youth, and to present law enforcement updates on drug abuse in the region.
The Pro Justicia broadcast was recorded at the TVRI Yogyakarta studio on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 11:30 to 12:30 WIB, and will air on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 15:00 to 16:00 WIB on TVRI Yogyakarta channel and via YouTube live streaming. The speakers included lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, as well as the Director of Narcotics Investigation of Polda DIY. The discussion featured Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum., Lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law UGM; Mr. Derajad S. Widhyharto, S.Sos., M.Si., Lecturer at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM; and Police Commissioner Rudy Yulianto, S.I.K., M.H., Director of Narcotics Investigation, Polda DIY.
From a legal academic perspective, Dr. Dani highlighted the importance of distinguishing between perpetrators (such as traffickers and dealers) and victims (users and addicts) within the framework of law enforcement on drug-related crimes. Meanwhile, Mr. Derajad, from a sociological perspective, emphasized the significance of social approaches in addressing drug abuse, including anti-drug education, counseling, group therapy, and social rehabilitation. He also underlined the crucial role of environmental factors in shaping individual behavior, particularly among teenagers. From the law enforcement side, Commissioner Rudy stressed that severe punishments, including the death penalty, are applied to traffickers and dealers. However, he noted that for drug users, restorative justice principles have been implemented by the police in several cases.
Through this edition of Pro Justicia, the three speakers collectively aimed to inform the wider public in Yogyakarta Special Region—especially youth—about the legal and social dimensions of drug abuse. The program is also expected to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 on ensuring healthy lives and well-being, Goal 16 on promoting justice and strong institutions, and Goal 17 on strengthening partnerships to achieve these objectives.
