Justicia Pioneer Holds Academic Guidance Session at UGM

On July 31, 2024, the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) witnessed an enlightening academic guidance session organized by Justicia, a pioneering student organization. The session, which lasted for 10 minutes, aimed to provide students with essential information regarding various academic terms and services available at the university. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education.

The session began with an introduction to key academic terms that every student should be familiar with. Participants learned about SIMASTER, the university's academic information system, and eLOK, the online learning platform that facilitates access to course materials. Understanding these tools is crucial for students to navigate their academic journey effectively.

One of the highlights of the session was the explanation of UKT (Uang Kuliah Tunggal), the single tuition fee system implemented at UGM. This system aims to make education more accessible and equitable, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students from pursuing their studies. The guidance session emphasized the importance of understanding UKT in relation to students' financial planning.

Additionally, the session covered the KRS (Kartu Rencana Studi), which is the study plan card that students must fill out each semester. Participants were informed about the significance of KRS in managing their course load and ensuring they meet graduation requirements. The session also touched upon IPK (Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif), the cumulative grade point average, which is a critical measure of academic performance.

The academic guidance session also provided insights into the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) offered at UGM. This program allows students to engage in a global learning environment, enhancing their educational experience and preparing them for international careers. The importance of IUP in fostering global citizenship was highlighted during the discussion.

Moreover, the session addressed the concept of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), which allows students to convert credits from various learning experiences outside the traditional classroom setting. This initiative encourages students to explore diverse learning opportunities, promoting a more holistic educational approach.

Participants were also informed about various competitions and academic events that UGM organizes, which provide students with opportunities to showcase their skills and knowledge. Engaging in these activities not only enhances students' academic profiles but also fosters a spirit of healthy competition and collaboration.

The session concluded with an overview of the support services available to students, including EVIDEN, the university's documentation and administrative service, and the Law Library, which offers extensive resources for legal research. Additionally, students were made aware of the services for reporting sexual violence and psychological counseling, emphasizing UGM's commitment to student welfare and safety.

Finally, the session highlighted the advocacy services provided by DEMA Justicia, which supports students in various academic and non-academic matters. This comprehensive guidance session not only equipped students with vital information but also reinforced the importance of community and support within the academic environment

In conclusion, the academic guidance session organized by Justicia at UGM was a significant step towards enhancing students' understanding of their academic journey. By providing essential information and resources, the session contributed to the broader goal of ensuring quality education and fostering an inclusive learning environment for all students.
