On Wednesday (2/10/2024), the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Class IIB Sleman Correctional Facility (Lapas Sleman) signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) focusing on Community Service, Research, and Internships.
This PKS builds on the previous collaboration between UGM Law Faculty and Lapas Sleman, which had been limited to legal outreach. The new agreement expands the scope to include free legal aid services provided by UGM’s Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH) for inmates, alongside research and internship opportunities for UGM law students.
The signing of this PKS represents UGM Law Faculty’s commitment, through PKBH, to enhance various legal services. These services include non-litigation assistance, such as legal consultations and outreach, as well as litigation support through legal representation. Additionally, the agreement supports UGM’s goal of improving its community service performance while offering research and internship opportunities for its students at Lapas Sleman.
This initiative aligns with the 16th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), promoting peace, justice, and inclusive institutions, and the 17th SDG, which emphasizes building partnerships to achieve tangible and impactful outcomes.
Lapas Sleman warmly welcomed the legal aid programs as part of their efforts to contribute to community service. The institution also expressed enthusiasm for the research and internship programs, offering law students the opportunity to gather data for their studies and participate in internships within the prison environment. Both institutions are committed to maintaining and enhancing this collaboration in line with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in improving community service and legal assistance for society.
Representatives from UGM Law Faculty included Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., Dean of UGM Law Faculty; Adrianto Dwi Nugroho, S.H., Adv.LL.M., LL.D., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation; Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum., head of PKBH; and other members of PKBH and the Partnership & Development Unit.
From Lapas Sleman, the event was attended by Kelik Sulistyanto, Amd.IP., S.H., M.H., Head of Class IIB Sleman Correctional Facility, along with department heads and other officials from the prison. The event began with an opening ceremony, the national anthem, followed by speeches from UGM and Lapas Sleman representatives, the signing of the PKS, the exchange of plaques and souvenirs, documentation, and concluded with a networking session.
