Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has successfully held a legal counseling activity on Wednesday (9/10/2024). This counseling was attended by the Village Leader of Argomulyo Kapanewon Sedayu Village, Bantul Regency, Community Leaders and Community Representatives of Argomulyo Kapanewon Sedayu Village, Bantul Regency.
This activity was carried out by the Legal Counseling Grant recipient team under the leadership of Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Si. The event raised the theme "Empowerment of Village Communities Through Understanding the Law of Customary Transactions to Support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Argomulyo Village, Kapanewon Sedayu, Bantul". This activity is an implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education in the aspect of community service, which is carried out through a collaborative and innovative approach. The execution of this counseling is expected to provide education to the village community about their rights and obligations in the context of customary transactions, as well as how to utilize legal knowledge to empower themselves.
Furthermore, legal education sessions with this theme are conducted as an effort to support sustainable development goals, particularly in achieving the eradication of poverty (SDG 1), promoting gender equality (SDG 5), and fostering peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16). Strengthening property rights and access to natural resources through fair customary transactions; ensuring that women have equal rights in customary transactions, such as land and inheritance rights; and enhancing understanding and implementation of customary and national laws can help create a more just and peaceful society in support of sustainable development.
This counseling was opened with remarks by Mr. Bambang Sarwono as the Head of Argomulyo Village, Kapanewon Sedayu, Bantul. Then continued by Dr. Sulastriyono, SH., Msi. as the head of the legal counseling.
After that, the counseling began with a presentation of material by Dr. Agus Sudaryanto, SH., MSi. with the topic "Building Strong Institutions through Improving Legal Understanding in Villages" continued with the presentation of material by Dr. Rimawati, SH., MHum. with the topic "Understanding and Socialization of Community Empowerment Strategies in the Development and Management of Local Potential," and finally closed with the presentation of material by Dr. Sulastriyono, SH., Msi. with the topic "Land Transactions and Inheritance in Customary Law." The presentation of counseling material by the three speakers was delivered with a method that actively involved participants, creating a dynamic and productive discussion atmosphere. In addition, the speakers also provided comprehensive and constructive responses to various questions asked by the extension participants.
