(LL.M.) Program
Jakarta Campus
Thesis
1. Thesis Preparation Flow
Students of the Master of Laws Study Program Jakarta Campus are required to properly compose scientific works in the form of research proposals and theses. In connection with this, it is necessary to formulate and regulate several matters related to the guidelines and mechanism for writing research proposals and theses. The preparation of these guidelines certainly follows the general pattern applicable to the Graduate Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
2. Flow from title submission to thesis examination
- Students submit at least one thesis title, accompanied by the problem formulation, a description of the research to be conducted in the thesis topic submission form and the originality of the research, to the Head of Study Program via the study program email mihjakarta@ugm.ac.id;
- Approximately 7 days after the study program receives your email regarding the thesis topic submission, the study program will schedule the determination of a Thesis Supervisor who matches the thesis topic and problem formulation you submitted, together with the Head of Study Program and other friends who are submitting thesis titles;
- Students can propose or recommend the name of a lecturer who is relevant to the proposed thesis topic and if the student has previously discussed the topic with the lecturer it would be even better, but if the student has not yet determined the lecturer who will supervise, then the Head of Study Program will select a relevant lecturer;
- The Study Program issues a letter requesting a thesis supervisor, accompanied by the student’s title submission file, to the prospective supervisor, asking whether they are willing to become the thesis supervisor;
- If the appointed lecturer objects because they already have a lot of supervisions or because the proposed material is not in accordance with their field of expertise, then the Head of Study Program will appoint another lecturer;
- If the supervisor is willing, the study program will then process the Thesis Supervisor Assignment Letter and contact the student to immediately carry out the thesis supervision process with the supervisor;
- During the supervision process, students can contact the lecturer via the supervisor’s email, and students must follow the lecturer’s directions for supervision, which can be done online via email, WhatsApp, or direct supervision at UGM Yogyakarta or when the lecturer has a teaching schedule at UGM Jakarta. Students are also required to record supervision notes in the SIMASTER application;
- Once the proposal has been approved by the supervisor, the student submits a request for a proposal seminar to the Study Program by filling out the thesis proposal seminar request form which contains student identity, thesis title, supervisor name and uploading the proposal file;
- The Head of Study Program then determines three evaluating lecturers including the thesis supervisor, based on the theme of the student’s proposal;
- After determining the assessing lecturers, the study program sends the thesis proposal file and the minutes of the proposal seminar as well as the schedule for conducting the proposal examination to the 3 assessing lecturers via email, including to the email of the student being examined;
- After the thesis proposal seminar examination has been conducted, the student revises as per input from the evaluating lecturers and submits the proposal revision approval to each lecturer to obtain approval signatures;
- The student conducts research and thesis writing as stipulated in the Study Program Thesis Writing Guidebook, after obtaining approval from the 3 proposal assessment lecturers;
- Students are required to conduct a similarity check via the Turnitin test link with a provision of 20% in accordance with the Turnitin Regulations to proceed with thesis examination registration. A thesis that has been approved by the supervisor can be submitted for thesis examination;
- Students apply for the thesis examination via the thesis examination registration form, by completing their student identity information and uploading the proposal revision approval file, the proposal approval sheet from the 3 proposal assessment lecturers, the publication manuscript, as well as the thesis file to be examined;
- The Head of the Study Program determines the examining lecturers, one of whom is the thesis supervisor. The Head/Secretary of the Study Program serves as the chief examiner or may appoint another lecturer to be the chief examiner;
- The study program contacts the examining lecturers and determines the time for the thesis examination;
- The thesis examination will be conducted in person at the Faculty of Law, UGM Yogyakarta;
- Students revise the thesis and submit it to the 3 examining lecturers to obtain approval signatures.
