The Research Center for Law, Gender, and Society (LGS), Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again held a Sharing Session, this time presenting 2026 research findings titled "Surviving Amid Stigma: Living Conditions and Voices of Transgender Women in Accessing HIV/AIDS Services (A Study of 3 Cities in Indonesia)." The event took place on Thursday, 30 April 2026, from 13.30 WIB until completion, with the venue communicated via WhatsApp to registered participants by the organizing team.
The discussion was led by Rama Agung Nur Pratama, S.H., M.H.Kes., who presented the 2026 research report on the living conditions and experiences of transgender women (transpuan) communities in three cities across Indonesia in accessing healthcare services, particularly HIV/AIDS-related services.
During the session, the facilitator amplified the voices of the transgender women's community, who continue to face compounded stigma and discrimination based on both gender identity and health status, resulting in limited access to adequate and sustained healthcare services. The research underscores the importance of inclusive and needs-sensitive healthcare approaches for vulnerable groups, while advocating for the removal of structural and social barriers that have long hindered transgender women from accessing HIV/AIDS services on an equal basis.
Through this sharing session, LGS FH UGM hopes to raise broader public awareness of the conditions and challenges faced by the transgender women's community, while advocating for more inclusive and equitable health policies for all members of society, without exception.
The training also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education by strengthening volunteers’ understanding of gender, masculinity, and sexuality as important perspectives in legal research; SDG 5 on Gender Equality by promoting equality, preventing gender-based violence, and encouraging men’s engagement in advancing gender equality; and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by fostering legal research and advocacy that are more responsive to issues of gender, identity, and power relations. Through capacity building, LGS FH UGM seeks to advance more inclusive, responsive, and equitable approaches to legal research and practice.
