A delegation from the Faculty of Law Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning 3rd Place at the Sunan Ampel Legal Competition organized by UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya on May 4–5, 2026. The national competition was attended by 61 universities across Indonesia and served as a platform for law students to enhance their critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills.
The FH UGM delegation, competing under the name Team Raden Qasim, consisted of Athaya Salsabila Samosir (Class of 2024), Ni Luh Putu Taman Anandina Seva (Class of 2025), and M. Akbar Adfati Zuhru (Class of 2025). The competition carried the theme “Ecological Constitution: A Paradigm of Legal Reform to Achieve Environmental Justice.” Participants debated various legal motions concerning environmental issues and national legal reform.
The FH UGM team successfully advanced through all stages of the competition, including the preliminary round, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final round, before ultimately securing 3rd Place in the legal debate competition. This achievement reflects FH UGM students’ commitment to strengthening their academic capabilities while fostering awareness of legal and environmental issues.
This accomplishment is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education through the enhancement of students’ competencies and educational quality, SDG 13: Climate Action through discussions on environmental justice issues in academic forums, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through the promotion of critical legal thinking and environmental justice reform in Indonesia.
