The Indonesian Corruption Museum Opens at the Faculty of Law, UGM: A Satirical and Educational Innovation

Jaksapedia (Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia) in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) launched the Indonesian Corruption Museum, Indonesia’s first-ever exhibition of its kind, which officially opened on Thursday (June 19, 2025) as part of the Sound of Justice 2025 event series. This museum serves as a satirical-educational innovation to raise public awareness of the dangers of corruption, while reinforcing the commitment to eradicating corruption in the country.

The Indonesian Corruption Museum features statues of major corrupt officials complete with prison vests, an interactive visual gallery, and chronological data on corruption cases that have cost the state hundreds of trillions of rupiah. With a satirical approach, this museum not only presents facts but also serves as a space for critical reflection, encouraging the public to be more concerned, courageous, and active in monitoring corrupt practices.

In addition to serving as a platform for legal education, this museum is expected to foster a sense of shame regarding corruption while building collective awareness of the social, political, and economic impacts of corruption. The opening of this exhibition also marks the first collaboration between Jaksapedia and the Faculty of Law at UGM in promoting transparency and interactive, experience-based legal education.

This initiative is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, through the strengthening of transparent and accountable governance. Furthermore, the synergy between law enforcement officials, academics, and students reflects the implementation of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by emphasizing the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration in anti-corruption efforts. Thus, the Indonesian Corruption Museum is not only a satirical-educational installation but also a tangible contribution to the development of a just and sustainable legal system.
