Enhancing Legal Awareness in Gading Village: UGM Faculty of Law, PKBH FH UGM, and the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office Hold Legal Counseling on Online Loans and Online Gambling

Thursday, (27/2/2025), the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the High Prosecutor’s Office of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), successfully conducted a legal counseling event titled "Suluh Praja" at the Gading Village Office, Playen District, Gunungkidul Regency, DIY Province. This legal counseling aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the participants, including village officials and the local community, particularly regarding cases related to online loans and online gambling. The theme for this session of Suluh Praja was "Online Loans and Online Gambling from the Perspective of Islamic Law."

The event commenced at 09:30 AM WIB with a collective singing of the Indonesian national anthem, followed by a welcoming speech from the Head of Gading Village, Mr. Rugiyanto. Representatives from the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office then delivered an introductory speech and presented materials on the duties, main functions, and responsibilities of the Civil and State Administrative Division of the Indonesian Prosecutor’s Office, particularly those of the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office.

The legal counseling session continued with a presentation by a faculty expert from UGM’s Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Tata Wijayanta, S.H., M.Hum., who discussed the topic "Online Loans." His session provided insights into the legal aspects of online lending practices and common cases found in society. The second speaker, Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., also from UGM’s Faculty of Law, presented on "Online Gambling from the Perspective of Islamic Law." This session aimed to raise public awareness of online gambling activities from an Islamic legal perspective. Both speakers from the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office and UGM Faculty of Law actively engaged in discussions during the Q&A session with village officials and community members. The presentations were designed to be interactive and engaging, fostering meaningful discussions. The speakers also provided clear and solution-oriented answers to participants' questions.

This legal counseling initiative is expected to support efforts in strengthening an inclusive and peaceful society, aligning with SDG Goal 16 on promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, starting at the village government level. Furthermore, it reinforces partnerships to achieve better objectives in accordance with SDG Goal 17 on strengthening collaboration for sustainable development.
