In Indonesia, there have been challenges to promote the multidisciplinary study to law. One prominent cause is the long domination of dogmatic studies which applies a monodisciplinary approach. However, this approach disability to explain and to solve the emergence of complex legal cases has recently encouraged people to find out suitable approach. Due to the complexity of that cases, a multidisciplinary approach is seen as a suitable one.
In accordance with the issue mentioned before, three master programs of the Law School of the University of Gadjah Mada namely Master in Law, Master in Law (Jakarta Campus), and Master in Health Law had held the Guest Methodology of Legal Research and Legal Writing under the theme Contemporary Approaches in Legal Research. The Objective of the guest lecture was to enhance thoughtful and critical explanation on approaches in legal research and to enlarge knowledge from a global perspective about legal research. It was a guest lecture by Prof. Adriaan Bedner from the University of Leiden, the Netherland. Prof. Adriaan Bedner is a well-known law professor who has spent more than 30 years to study law in Indonesia. He is currently a head of the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance and Society.
The guest lecture took place on Friday (12/11) and lasted for 100 minutes. This event was successful in attracting public attention and was attended by 216 participants from all over Indonesia through an online zoom meeting. The event was also broadcast live streaming from the Kanal Pengetahuan FH UGM YouTube channel. During the event, participants were facilitated with an English-language translator dan sign interpreter to help to understand. The participants could determine the language to be used to make it easier to understand the material presented by Prof. Adrian Bedner. In order to improve the quality of learning outcomes, the Master in Law is committed to holding more guest lectures with multidisciplinary studies.
