INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE
Double Degree
One of the most significant advantages of being a student at the International Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada is the availability of a double degree opportunity. This means the exceptional International Undergraduate Program students have the chance to obtain two undergraduate degrees in law, one from UGM and one from a partner university abroad, without having to spend extra years.
Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada offers two Double Degree Programs for International Undergraduate Program students in collaboration with international partner universities namely University of Maastricht and University of Groningen. Both universities are situated in the Netherlands.
Joining the Double Degree Program between Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada and Faculty of Law in the University of Groningen or Maastricht University, The Netherlands will be a good opportunity for students to pursue. A student will get two valuable degrees effectively without losing time within four years. Beside earning two valuable degrees, IUP students are strongly encouraged to participate in a Double Degree Program because IUP students can expand their knowledge and network in order to enhance their career opportunities.
The benefits taking the double degree program (i.e. within 4 years one may obtain two degrees from one reputable school of law in the “east” and one in the “west”; one may face fruitful experiences because knowing legal system in Indonesia and “its ancestor”; expanding the students’ horizon (culture, mindset, etc).
Term of Study
The students will study part of the curriculum at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada and part at the partner university. In approximately four years successful candidates will have obtained a Sarjana Hukum degree from UGM and a Legum Baccalaureus (Bachelor of Laws/LL.B.) from a partner university.
Double Degree Program means the students spend first year at UGM + second and third year at partner university + fourth year at UGM (For thesis although it will be conducted at the UGM it will be co supervised by both lecturers UGM and partner university)
To apply Dual Degree (DD) Program, a student shall have an outstanding performance in semester 1. The result of 2nd semester will be used as the final consideration to grant or not to grant the nomination to the applicant(s).
In order to be admitted for internal selection a student shall complete this following procedure;
- Complete offline Application Form
- Complete online Application Form ugm.id/DDPApplication by uploading the following documents:
- Student Card
- Curriculum Vitae
- Certificate of English Language Proficiency Test (TOEFL ITP minimum score 550; IELTS minimum score 6.5; it is advised that the applicant(s) shall prepare this certificate as early as possible.
- Motivation Letter
- Color Scan of Passport
- Health Certificate of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 (MMPI 2) Test from hospital type A, B, or C. For this result, the IUP secretariat will only consider the detailed result which includes the score/graphic and also the detailed remarks issued by the hospital as the following sample. A certain hospital may not give the patient a detailed numeric score of the MMPI 2 test, i.e. Sardjito Hospital. Thus, the applicant(s) should anticipate by asking for clarification in the first place to the hospital whether they are able to provide the detailed score like the sample above. If they cannot, please seek another hospital. The students are suggested to ensure and clarify that they will obtain a receipt of their numeric and table score with its descriptive explanation from the hospital. If the hospital cannot guarantee providing the students with the detailed report, we encourage you to approach doctor Herliana Pohan who has successfully provided detailed reports to the students. She works at JIH and Wirosaban (her contact can be requested at the secretariat).
After a student completes the application documents, IUP will conduct an internal selection process which consist of two tests namely Writing Test and Interview, and to be followed by nominating the candidates to partner university.
The applicants have to pass the internal screening conducted by the IUP UGM while almost at the same time they may start their submission at the partner university. There will be coordination between the schools to decide the matter.

Exchange Program
It is a good opportunity for students in the Universitas Gadjah Mada to have experience studying in partner universities around the globe for one or two semesters. To know UGM’s partner universities for joining an exchange program you may see at UGM International collaboration
A student who are interested to join an exchange program at partner universities may check some information at https://oia.ugm.ac.id/ or https://iup.law.ugm.ac.id/ . And if a student is required to have a nomination letter from Faculty, s/he shall complete this registration form
International Conference
International conference shall adhere to the following requirements.
- This conference can be held either in abroad or in Indonesia. If the latter condition applies, the student shall ensure that the conference is really an international conference. It can be indicated by the institutions which support the conference and the language used during the conference.
- The student shall act as a speaker, and NOT as a participant. Therefore, IUP may conduct screening the presented paper made by the student.
- IUP does not set any specific requirement for the time duration for the conference.
Short Course
Short Courses which are admitted as international exposure shall comply with the following requirements.
- The taken course shall have a tight correlation with the legal issues. It will be better if the course is fit with the student’s concentration study.
- Besides, the course shall be offered by reputable and qualified institution, such as university (ex: University of Tokyo, Institute of Social Studies, International Anti-Corruption Academy, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, etc); AND/OR International NGO (such as: Transparency International, Friends of the Earth, Amnesty International, etc); AND/OR reputable international organisation (like UN, OECD, WB, ASEAN etc).
- Minimum duration of the international course shall be five days, as it is considered as the appropriate minimum time to enable the students engaging with the international communities.
- Do not choose a course which is lower or higher than your academic qualification. There was an incident that IUP declined a student’s application because the course was intended for an advanced participant (mid-career of lawyers and researchers).
Competition
International competition shall fit with the following requirements.
- The competition shall be about legal issues.
- The competition shall be held by a reputable and qualified institution. As it is mentioned in the section of the international course, reputable and qualified institution refers to (i) Reputable University; AND/OR (ii) Reputable INGO; AND/OR reputable IO.
