The event featured the theme “Protection of Victims’ Rights in Indonesia’s Criminal Justice System: Present and Future.”
The seminar featured several prominent national speakers, including Syahrial Martanto Wiryawan, S.H., an expert staff member at the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK); Azriana Rambe Manalu, S.H., Chairperson of the National Commission on Violence Against Women of the Republic of Indonesia; Prof. Dr. Marcus Priyo Gunarto, S.H., M.Hum., an academic from the Faculty of Law UGM and member of the drafting team for the Draft Criminal Code (RUU KUHP); and Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., a victimology scholar at the Faculty of Law UGM.

According to M. Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., chair of the seminar committee, the event was organized as part of MIH’s contribution to the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi). He explained that the MIH Program supports the implementation of the Tri Dharma through seminars, open houses, and book-writing workshops. Through these activities, students and the public receive educational opportunities, while the book-writing and publication agenda contributes to research and publication, and the dissemination of knowledge to the public serves as a form of community engagement.

In addition to the national seminar, the event also featured an Open House for the Master’s Program in Legal Studies and the Law Lecture Master’s (LLM) Program. The Open House was intended to introduce the Master’s Program in Legal Studies to the public and institutions that collaborate with MIH.
According to Muhammad Fikri Alan, S.H., Chairperson of the Keluarga Mahasiswa Magister Ilmu Hukum (KMMIH), the event aimed to provide broader public understanding of MIH. He explained that MIH is often perceived as consisting only of the MIH program, whereas it also includes the Law Lecture Master’s (LLM) Program. The Open House was also expected to provide the public with a clearer understanding of the differences between MIH and other postgraduate programs at the Faculty of Law, particularly programs with similar names, such as MIH and the Master of Law (MH) program.

The event concluded with a book-writing workshop. According to Adlia Nur Zhafarina, S.H., M.H., the workshop coordinator, the workshop carried the theme “Protection and Rights of Criminal Offense Victims and Victims’ Access to Justice.” The workshop was intended to support the preparation of an edited volume on victimology. Participants included MIH FH UGM alumni, lecturers, and academics who were invited to contribute to the publication in accordance with the workshop’s theme.
The workshop also aimed to establish a common perspective and framework for writing the book, including determining the writing methodology, the schools of thought in victimology to be applied, and policy recommendations to be incorporated into the publication.

The event was attended by approximately 150 participants from various backgrounds, including students, academics, representatives of government institutions, and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
“Hopefully, events like this can be replicated by other study programs so that they can continue to contribute to society,” concluded Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar.

Magister Ilmu Hukum UGM Adakan Seminar dan Open House Program Studi Magister Ilmu Hukum (MIH) Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada mengadakan kegiatan Seminar dan Open House pada Kamis, 22 November 2018 di gedung University Club Universitas Gadjah Mada .
