\"IMG_0553\"<\/a>Indonesia has once again lost one of its finest sons. On Wednesday (16\/3), Professor of the Faculty of Law UGM, Prof. Dr. Bambang Poernomo, S.H., passed away at the age of 77 at his residence in the Faculty of Law UGM Lecturers Housing Complex, Jalan Waringin Sari C\/13, Depok, Sleman. Before his burial, on Thursday (17\/3), the entire UGM family, particularly from the Faculty of Law UGM, along with mourners from various institutions, paid their final respects at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, Dr. Marlinda Irwanti, one of the late professor\u2019s children representing the family, expressed gratitude for the final tribute and apologized for any mistakes the deceased may have made during his lifetime, whether intentional or unintentional. \u201cAs an imperfect human being, our father certainly had many shortcomings. Hopefully, today, with the sincerity and goodwill of all of you, his mistakes may be forgiven,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

Born in Pati on June 26, 1938, he achieved numerous accomplishments and produced many scholarly works, as reflected in the various awards he received and the ideas he published throughout his lifetime. One of the honors awarded to him was the Satyalancana Karya Satya XXX in 1995 from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. \u201cThe late professor was a distinguished academic who deserves to be a role model for all of us,\u201d said Prof. M. Hawin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Law UGM, while reading the life history of the former Head of the Criminal Law Department of the Faculty of Law UGM from 1974 to 1982.<\/p>\n

Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., on behalf of the UGM family, conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family during the final tribute ceremony. \u201cMay the late professor receive the most honorable place beside Almighty God.\u201d The Rector of UGM also emphasized that throughout his career, the deceased demonstrated great commitment to UGM and to the Indonesian nation. His inaugural professorial speech in 1989 entitled \u201cThe Benefits of Criminal Law Implementation in Developing the Indonesian Law Enforcement Model\u201d provided a new reference point for law enforcement practices in Indonesia. The late professor was also one of the pioneers of the UGM student community service movement, now known as Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN), which later evolved into Indonesia Mengajar. The final tribute concluded with prayers, followed by the departure of the body for burial at the UGM Family Cemetery in Sawit Sari, Depok, Sleman.
