On Friday, October 30, 2026, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through its Center for Legal Consultation and Legal Aid (PKBH), successfully organized a legal education and legal consultation program at the Class IIB Women's Correctional Institution (Lapas Perempuan) Yogyakarta. This initiative represents one of PKBH FH UGM's concrete efforts to fulfill the University's community service mission as part of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The multi-helix program brought together various stakeholders, including faculty members, students, and legal practitioners, to deliver direct legal services and education.<\/p>\n
The legal counseling session commenced at 9:30 a.m. WIB at the Hall of the Yogyakarta Women\u2019s Correctional Facility Class IIB. The event opened with remarks from the Head of the Section for Guidance of Inmates\/Children and Work Activities at the Yogyakarta Women\u2019s Correctional Facility Class IIB, Ms. Latifah Mukhlasin, A.Md.P., S.Tr.Pas., M.H., expressed her appreciation for the implementation of the collaborative legal counseling program as an effort to expand access to legal services for inmates. <\/span><\/p>\n The program featured two lecturers as speakers, each presenting a different topic. Dr. Murti Pramuwardhani Dewi, S.H., M.Hum., delivered a session entitled \u201cProtection of Women\u2019s Rights.\u201d In her presentation, she explained that women serving sentences retain their dignity and human rights. The discussion also addressed the fulfillment of rights requiring particular attention for women, including reproductive health services, protection from violence, harassment and discrimination, privacy and personal dignity, the specific needs of mothers with children, as well as mental health support.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Ms. Diantika Rindam Floranti, S.H., LL.M., delivered a session entitled \u201cThe Dangers of Recidivism to Prevent Reoffending.\u201d In this session, she discussed various factors that may contribute to recidivism, including internal factors such as low legal awareness and self-justification, as well as external factors such as economic conditions, lack of family support, social stigma, and inadequate post-release support. As part of recidivism prevention efforts, inmates were encouraged to participate in skills and vocational training as well as rehabilitation programs to support their reintegration into society and prevent reoffending. Both speakers presented their respective topics comprehensively and interactively.<\/p>\n Implementing the Legal Counseling and Consultation Program at the Yogyakarta Women\u2019s Correctional Facility Class IIB also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education, by providing inclusive and sustainable legal education for inmates. The program also supports SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by strengthening legal literacy and expanding access to justice through legal consultation services provided directly to the inmates. In addition, the program reflects the implementation of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between the Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada, through PKBH FH UGM, and the Yogyakarta Women\u2019s Correctional Facility Class IIB.<\/p>\n This collaboration is carried out through a community service program focused on legal empowerment, capacity building for inmates, and strengthening institutional synergy to expand access to justice sustainably. Through this program, the Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada, through PKBH FH UGM, continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering community service initiatives that contribute to improving access to education and legal services.
