In close partnership with the civil society organization network within the Working Group on ICCAs in Indonesia (WGII), this collaboration between an academic institution and an NGO coalition was convened to dismantle conventional conservation paradigms that frequently disregard the human rights of communities. The synergy affirmed that constitutional and socio-legal scholarship must stand in step with the struggle of Indigenous Peoples and local communities at the grassroots level, in defense of their ecological governance sovereignty.

Over three days, the Innovation and Creativity Hub (Gelanggang Inovasi dan Kreativitas/GIK) of Universitas Gadjah Mada transformed into an inclusive and dynamic meeting point. Hundreds of indigenous people delegates, non-governmental organization activists, legal researchers, and policymakers from across the archipelago converged on a single platform of consolidation. From the main hall, to panel discussion rooms, local wisdom exhibition areas, and communal interaction spaces all filled with open dialectics on the need for a redistribution of power in environmental governance in Indonesia.

The culmination of PCS 2026 was the historic adoption of the Indonesian People's Conservation Declaration, which formulated 13 demands for fundamental change. The Declaration departed from the foundational problems on the ground the need for a full state recognition of tenure rights and customary territories that have been sustainably cared for by local communities.

The joint declaration explicitly demanded the reform of sectoral agrarian-forestry regulations, formal recognition of people-based conservation, and the rejection of the global *30x30* scheme where it does not apply the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC). It also underscored that administrative recognition by the state is meaningless without a genuine devolution of authority in decision-making chains.

The demands encompassed open access to climate finance that reaches indigenous peoples directly, the enforcement of community data sovereignty, and the protection of intellectual property over traditional knowledge and genetic resources from unilateral commercialization. Beyond this, indigenous women's leadership and the active involvement of the younger generation were placed at the epicenter of the struggle to ensure that intergenerational ecological justice remains sustainably preserved.

The active involvement of PANDEKHA FH UGM as a strategic academic partner in PCS 2026 affirms the university's concrete contribution to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
