The activity, which took place during the "Siaran Santai Siang" program, was titled "Children, Algorithms, and Exploitation: The Dark Side of Digitalization" as an effort to improve public legal literacy regarding child protection amid the advancement of digital technology. The activity featured Abdus Salam, S.H., M.H., a Partner at Satriawan Edo & Co., and Puteri Titian, S.H., Legal Staff at LBH Yogyakarta, as speakers. The broadcast was hosted by Bondan Gandhini Purbosari Sekarjati, an undergraduate student at the UGM Faculty of Law. Through radio, this activity became a means of legal education capable of reaching a wider audience, particularly in discussing the risks of child exploitation occurring through digital content.

The advancement of digital technology has driven increased involvement of children in the use of the internet and social media. Children's presence in digital spaces offers various benefits, such as easier access to information, the development of creativity, and the expansion of social networks. On the other hand, however, this development also presents risks to child protection, one of which is child exploitation through digital content. In the broadcast, the discussion focused on the forms of child exploitation in digital spaces, the limits of children's involvement in content creation, and the risks that can arise when children are made objects for gaining public attention or economic profit. This phenomenon is a matter of important concern because children's involvement in digital content does not always take place under safe conditions and in accordance with the best interests of the child.

From a legal perspective, child exploitation is one of the issues regulated in Law No. 35 of 2014 on the Amendment to Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection. Article 76I sets out the prohibition of economic and/or sexual exploitation of children. Understanding these provisions is important so that the public can recognize the potential for exploitation and grasp the importance of protecting children's rights in digital activities. Beyond discussing legal aspects, the activity also emphasized the important role of parents and the community in supervising children's digital activities. Child protection is not merely carried out by keeping children away from technology, but by ensuring that children's involvement in digital spaces takes place safely, responsibly, and without sacrificing their rights and dignity.

Children's involvement in digital spaces cannot automatically be categorized as exploitation, because children still have the right to participate, express themselves, and make use of technological developments but such involvement must still take into account the best interests of the child and must not sacrifice their rights, privacy, dignity, education, playtime, or well-being. The line between participation and exploitation needs to be viewed from the purpose, process, and impact of children's involvement in creating and disseminating content, especially when children are used to gain public attention or economic profit while disregarding their interests and rights. In the context of Indonesian law, economic and/or sexual exploitation of children is also prohibited as stipulated in Article 76I of the Child Protection Law. Therefore, child protection in digital spaces is not only the responsibility of parents through accompaniment and supervision, but also requires the role of the community to be wiser in creating, consuming, and sharing content, as well as the role of digital platforms in creating safe digital spaces for children. Technological development should be a space for children to grow, learn, and express themselves without sacrificing their rights and best interests, so that improving legal literacy and digital literacy becomes important to ensure that children's involvement in the digital world takes place safely, healthily, and responsibly.

This legal outreach activity is relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Through education on child exploitation in digital spaces, the activity contributes to improving legal literacy and public understanding of child protection. In addition, the discussion on children's rights, the prevention of exploitation, and the role of the community in creating safe digital spaces is in line with efforts to promote the protection of children's rights and access to justice. Through this activity, Satria Paramartha FH UGM hopes that the public, especially parents, can gain a more comprehensive understanding of child protection in digital spaces. Improved legal literacy and digital literacy are expected to encourage the creation of safe, healthy, and responsible digital spaces for children.

Organisasi Peradilan Semu Satria Paramartha Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) menyelenggarakan kegiatan penyuluhan hukum melalui siaran radio RRI Pro 2 Yogyakarta pada Rabu (16/9/2026).
