The program is an academic collaboration between FH UGM and Sydney Law School, University of Sydney, combining classroom learning with direct experience through field visits.

Over the course of four days, participants received instruction on various aspects of Indonesian law through lectures delivered by FH UGM faculty members. The course material covered a broad range of legal subjects and developments within the Indonesian legal system, including Islamic law (hukum Islam) and customary law (hukum adat). These discussions provided participants with a perspective on the diversity of legal sources and the ways in which different legal traditions interact within Indonesia's national legal system.

Beyond the classroom sessions, the Winter School Program also gave participants the opportunity to observe legal practice and institutions in Indonesia directly through field visits. Participants visited Wirogunan Correctional Facility to gain an understanding of the correctional system and the implementation of criminal law in Indonesia. This was followed by a visit to the Yogyakarta Religious Court, where participants gained insight into its jurisdiction, procedural law, and the practice of adjudication within the religious court system (Pengadilan Agama) in Indonesia.

The integration of theoretical learning and field experience is one of the defining strengths of the Winter School Program. Participants were not merely studying Indonesia's legal concepts and frameworks from an academic perspective they were also able to understand how the law is applied by law enforcement and implementation institutions in real-world contexts.

The Winter School 2026 also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in particular SDG 4 and SDG 16. Beyond strengthening the internationalization of legal education, the program contributes to the development of learning oriented toward legal understanding, justice, and the building of sustainable institutions. It is hoped that the program will continue to serve as a platform for academic exchange and cross-cultural experience between FH UGM and its international partners in the future.

Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) menyelenggarakan Winter School Program pada 20–23 Juli 2026 sebagai bagian dari upaya memperkuat kerja sama akademik internasional sekaligus memperkenalkan sistem hukum Indonesia kepada mahasiswa internasional.
