The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), held a Muharram 1448 H Religious Gathering combined with a Welcoming Ceremony for Returning Hajj Pilgrims from the Faculty of Law on Wednesday, 15 July. The event served as an opportunity to strengthen fellowship while enhancing the religious understanding of the FH UGM academic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Sigid Riyanto, S.H., M.Si., Chair of the Faculty of Law UGM Religious Forum. In his remarks, he emphasized that the month of Muharram is an appropriate time to strengthen faith, engage in self-improvement, and foster greater solidarity within the Faculty of Law UGM. He also expressed his appreciation and prayers for members of the Faculty who had safely returned from the Holy Land, wishing that they attain the status of hajj mabrur (an accepted pilgrimage) and become role models within both the university and the wider community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main session featured a religious lecture delivered by Ustaz Mujiman, who discussed the significance and virtues of Muharram as one of the sacred months in Islam. In his sermon, he explained the historical background behind the designation of Muharram as the first month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar. Although the Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah did not occur during Muharram, the month was chosen as the beginning of the Islamic calendar following deliberations during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab, in recognition of the profound significance of the Hijrah as a turning point in the development of Islamic civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to discussing the significance of Muharram, Ustaz Mujiman addressed the returning Hajj pilgrims. He reminded them that achieving the status of hajj mabrur should not end with the completion of the pilgrimage rituals in the Holy Land. Rather, it should be reflected in everyday life through improved worship, exemplary moral conduct, and greater compassion and concern for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through the Muharram 1448 H Religious Gathering and the Welcoming Ceremony for Returning Hajj Pilgrims, FH UGM hopes that the spirit of the Islamic New Year will inspire all members of its academic community to strengthen their faith, reinforce the values of unity and togetherness, and embody Islamic teachings in their daily lives as well as in the fulfillment of their academic responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event also reflects the Faculty of Law UGM\u2019s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the promotion of character education and the strengthening of moral values within the academic community.
