Yogyakarta, May 12, 2026 \u2013 The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), through its Center for Legal Consultation and Aid (PKBH), in collaboration with Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) Yogyakarta, conducted a legal counseling broadcast titled \u201cPro Justicia: Advocates as Guardians of Human Rights within the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).\u201d This one-hour broadcast serves as a fulfillment of the obligations for Grant Recipients under the 2026 Community Service Grant Program organized by FH UGM through PKBH, acting as a medium for synergy in legal education provided by the FH UGM civitas academica. The broadcast explored normative provisions, current legal issues, and various aspects concerning the essence of advocates under both the existing and the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The broadcast featured Heni Nur Febriyanti, S.H., as the Grant Recipient, and Arter Lukas Tulia, S.H., an advocate experienced in criminal law. Both engaged in a detailed analysis of the provisions within the KUHAP and their relevance to the legal profession. Several questions regarding the role of advocates from the perspective of the KUHAP were raised throughout the session, with audience members interacting directly with the speakers. Key issues highlighted included the distinction between passive and active advocacy during criminal investigations and the integration of advocates in optimizing the oversight mechanisms for investigative actions. Ultimately, the broadcast aimed to articulate that the substantive regulations regarding the role of advocates in the former KUHAP differ from those in the new KUHAP, reflecting a more adaptive implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This legal counseling initiative represents a form of Community Service as mandated by the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars) of Higher Education. Furthermore, it serves as a tangible contribution to raising public legal awareness and acts as a manifestation of sustainable development based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, this activity addresses: Point 1 (No Poverty) by ensuring legal accessibility for all individuals through the role of advocates; Point 4 (Quality Education) through the dissemination of legal insights; Point 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by increasing accessibility to understanding the legal system; Point 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through legal education aimed at optimizing a safe and just society; and Point 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering cooperation among stakeholders to provide high-quality legal education as part of the community service mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
