The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), has once again achieved a notable accomplishment through its delegation\u2014Salsabila Zita Amalia (2023), Cut Kayla Layyina (2023), and Fayyaza Naira Hafidz (2023)\u2014who secured 2nd place at the Sam Ratulangi Law Writing Competition 2026, organized by the Legal Writing Center, Faculty of Law, Sam Ratulangi University. This national-level Legal Opinion competition carried the main theme \u201cLegal Modernization in Addressing the Challenges of Digital Technology Towards an Inclusive and Adaptive Legal Ecosystem.\u201d The competition consisted of two stages: an online preliminary round and a final round held offline on 17 April 2026 at the Faculty of Law, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. The UGM delegation advanced as one of four national finalists and presented their work before a panel of judges in the final round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the competition, Salsabila, Cut Kayla, and Fayyaza presented a Legal Opinion under an interdisciplinary subtheme combining technology, economics, and law, titled \u201cAlleged Misappropriation of Digital Assets and Wash Trading Practices of NFTs in the Blockchain Game Ecosystem \u2018Mythical Forge\u2019.\u201d This work examined issues of crypto asset misappropriation and NFT wash trading as indicators of money laundering within blockchain systems, focusing on elements of criminal liability, the validity of electronic evidence, and the limits of accountability in shared digital access environments. The paper emphasized the importance of fault-based individual responsibility and recommended strengthening digital forensic evidence as well as improving governance mechanisms through multi-signature wallets and on-chain audits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the final round, the UGM delegation delivered a comprehensive presentation integrating legal arguments with data-driven analysis. This achievement reflects the Faculty of Law UGM\u2019s commitment to fostering critical thinking and legal innovation that is responsive to the rapid development of modern technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This accomplishment also aligns with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through strengthening students\u2019 academic capacity in research, legal writing, and argumentation on contemporary issues. Furthermore, the topic of digital assets, transaction transparency, and law enforcement within the blockchain ecosystem is closely linked to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as it supports the development of a secure, transparent, and trustworthy digital economy. In addition, the emphasis on digital forensic evidence and legal accountability contributes to SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by promoting a legal system that is adaptive, transparent, and capable of addressing technological-era crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
