Held under the theme "Reflecting on Syawalan and Halal Bihalal to Strengthen Fellowship and Professional Values", the event was a meaningful occasion for renewing bonds of friendship and reinforcing a spirit of togetherness across the faculty.

The event was attended by the FH UGM leadership, professors, lecturers, administrative staff, and invited guests. Representatives of student organizations including autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, and communities within FH UGM, were also present.

The proceedings opened with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Ust. Muhammad Fatkhur Rohman, who read Surah Ali Imran, verse 133. This was followed by remarks from the Committee Chair, represented by Muhammad Jibril, S.H., M.Private Law, who also led the recitation of the Syawalan pledge.

Dean of FH UGM, Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., received the Syawalan pledge and delivered her address. In her remarks, she invited the entire academic community to make the spirit of Syawalan a means of deepening bonds of fellowship, strengthening a sense of togetherness, and cherishing the diversity of the campus community.

The reflective address (hikmah syawalan or mauizatul hasanah) was delivered by Ustadz Moch. Menachem Ali, M.A., who offered thoughtful reflections on the idea that compassion lies at the very heart of religious teaching and that the spirit of fraternity must therefore be a shared

Ustadz Moch. Menachem Ali, M.A. also emphasized that religion and culture are two complementary and inseparable dimensions of human life. He explained that religious practice can take many cultural forms - such as the wearing of batik, which, though not of Arab origin, is entirely permissible provided it meets the values of Islamic law, including the covering of the body (menutup aurat).

He further illustrated how local Javanese traditions have found their way into religious practice - such as the reading of the Quran in the style of traditional Javanese song (tembang). In his view, these varied cultural expressions are not errors, but manifestations of the richness of tradition in understanding and practicing religious teachings.

He also drew on the works of the Javanese literary figure Raden Ngabehi Ronggowarsito to demonstrate the historical and cultural links between the Javanese tradition and the Arab world -- arguing that the interaction between religion and culture has deep roots and is entirely worthy of academic inquiry.

The program continued with remarks from Prof. Dr. Mailinda Eka Yuniza, S.H., LL.M., speaking on behalf of the lecturers and administrative staff who will be departing on the Hajj pilgrimage. In her address, she asked for prayers and shared her hope that the pilgrimage would bring blessings.

As a gesture of appreciation and honor, FH UGM then presented tokens of appreciation to the lecturers and staff departing for Hajj, as well as to Ustadz Moch. Menachem Ali, M.A. and Ust. Muhammad Fatkhur Rohman.

As the event drew to a close, the gathering concluded with a handshake and halal bihalal -- a symbolic act of mutual forgiveness and the renewal of bonds among all members of the faculty. The warm, familial atmosphere that filled the moment was felt by all present.

The Syawalan and Halal Bihalal celebration also aligns with the values of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) -- particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Through this event, FH UGM endeavors to nurture a culture of peace, strengthen social relations, and build an educational institution that is inclusive and participatory.

The theme chosen reflects FH UGM's commitment to preserving harmony amid diversity, reinforcing the values of tolerance, and building strong social bonds among campus members as the foundation of a just, peaceful, and sustainable community.

Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) menyelenggarakan kegiatan Syawalan dan Halal Bihalal Tahun 1447 Hijriah di Auditorium Gedung B, pada Selasa, (31/3/2026).
