The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), through its academics, contributed to strengthening the discourse on national law enforcement by serving as panelists in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled \u201c30 Days Before the Implementation of the 2023 Criminal Code and the 2025 Criminal Procedure Code for More Just Law Enforcement.\u201d This FGD was organized by the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor\u2019s Office on Tuesday (December 2, 2025). The event served as a space for critical dialogue to discuss the readiness of law enforcement officials, implementation challenges, and the direction of reforms in Indonesia\u2019s criminal law system ahead of the enactment of these two important laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event, Prof. Dr. Marcus Priyo Gunarto, S.H., M.Hum., presented on \u201cThe Implementation and Challenges of Achieving a More Just Law Enforcement System Through the 2023 Criminal Code.\u201d Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., gave a presentation on \u201cThe 2025 Criminal Procedure Code: Toward Due Process of Law within the Paradigm of Restorative and Humanistic Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The participants, consisting of prosecutors within the jurisdiction of the DIY Provincial Prosecutor\u2019s Office, showed great enthusiasm during the discussion session. The questions raised reflected a practical need to strengthen a responsive, evidence-based legal system. Both speakers provided comprehensive and practical responses that blended academic and implementation-oriented perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event also contributed to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, it supported SDG 4: Quality Education, through the dissemination of relevant legal knowledge and the enhancement of participants\u2019 capacities. Second, it strengthened SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by promoting transparent, accountable, and public-interest-oriented legal practices. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it fosters active collaboration between the UGM Faculty of Law and various cross-sectoral stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
