The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) officially launched the 2025 Gadjah Mada Law Competition (GMLC)\u2014the Prof. Dr. RM. Sudikno Mertokusumo, S.H. Cup\u2014on Friday (October 31, 2025). The opening ceremony, held on the FH UGM campus, was attended by finalists from various universities across Indonesia, marking the start of this national-level law competition organized through a collaboration among three FH UGM student organizations: the Justicia Student Council (DEMA), the PALAPA Legal Research and Writing Forum (FPPH), and the Business Law Community (BLC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GMLC 2025 Project Officer Zahrani Dewinaya Candra explained that this competition is a prestigious academic event being held for the first time through a collaboration among student organizations at the UGM Faculty of Law. This year, GMLC features the theme \u201cStrengthening the Interdisciplinary Legal Paradigm as a Strategic Step Toward Sustainable Legal Reform and the Acceleration of the Green Economy.\u201d This theme reflects a commitment to the role of law in addressing global challenges, including climate change, the clean energy transition, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2025 GMLC Competition was divided into three categories: the Contract Drafting and Negotiation Competition (CDNC), the Legal Opinion Competition, and the Academic Writing Competition (KTI). A total of 63 delegations from 16 universities across Indonesia participated in this event, demonstrating students\u2019 high enthusiasm for academic activities and legal innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his opening remarks, the Head of the UGM Faculty of Law\u2019s Undergraduate Program, Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., expressed his appreciation to all finalists and the organizing committee for making GMLC 2025 a reality. He noted that this competition plays a strategic role in encouraging law students to think critically, innovatively, and adaptively in the face of contemporary challenges. Furthermore, he emphasized that the theme of GMLC 2025 is highly relevant in supporting interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening sustainable law to support the green economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through the organization of GMLC 2025, the Faculty of Law at UGM reaffirms its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving the quality of research-based legal education and academic competitions; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by encouraging the younger generation to play a role in creating a sustainable economy through legal innovation; SDG 13 (Climate Action) by integrating climate change issues into legal development; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration across universities and student organizations.
