On Wednesday (October 22, 2025), the UGM Faculty of Law, through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Special Region High Prosecutor\u2019s Office, successfully held a \u201cSuluh Praja\u201d legal outreach event at the Maguwoharjo Village Office in Depok Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. This legal outreach program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees\u2014village officials and the surrounding community\u2014regarding common legal issues. This edition of \u201cSuluh Praja\u201d focused on inheritance law and the resolution of inheritance disputes, offering insights into aspects of customary inheritance law and Islamic inheritance law, as well as how to resolve disputes that may arise during the distribution of inherited assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event began at 9:30 a.m. with the singing of the national anthem, \u201cIndonesia Raya,\u201d followed by opening remarks by Heri, the village secretary of Maguwoharjo. The program continued with a presentation by a team from the DIY High Prosecutor\u2019s Office, who discussed the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the civil and public administration divisions within the Indonesian Attorney General\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, the legal education session was led by three guest lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law. Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law, discussed the topic \u201cIslamic Inheritance Law\u201d to provide a basic overview and the latest updates on current developments in Islamic inheritance law in Indonesia. Next, the presentation was delivered by Dr. Agus Sudaryanto, S.H., M.Si., from the Department of Customary Law, who discussed \u201cCustomary Inheritance Law\u201d to provide an understanding of the inheritance system based on customary law in Indonesia. The next session was led by Prof. Dr. Tata Wijayanta, S.H., M.Hum., a Full Professor of Civil Law, who presented on the topic \u201cInheritance Disputes through Mediation\u201d to offer legal insights into alternative methods for resolving inheritance disputes through mediation between the parties. All speakers\u2014both from the DIY Provincial Attorney General\u2019s Office and faculty members of the UGM Faculty of Law\u2014actively participated in a question-and-answer session with the village officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presentations by all the speakers were delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating productive discussions. The lecturers also answered participants\u2019 questions clearly and offered practical solutions. It is hoped that this legal outreach program will support efforts to strengthen an inclusive and peaceful society in accordance with SDG Goal 16<\/strong> to foster peace, justice, and resilient institutions, starting at the village government level, as well as strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes in line with SDG Goal 17<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
