Attending this guest lecture were Sri Akhadiyanti, S.Pd., an Associate Expert in Community Guidance, as the guest speaker, and Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum., a professor of criminal law at FH UGM, as the moderator.

In her presentation, Sri Akhadiyanti explained the strategic role of the Correctional Services Office (BAPAS) within Indonesia’s criminal justice system, particularly in the stages of guidance, supervision, and social reintegration for inmates. She emphasized that a community-based approach is key to restoring offenders’ social ties with the community and preventing recidivism, especially among children and women in conflict with the law. This public lecture also highlighted challenges on the ground, ranging from limited human resources to inter-agency coordination in implementing effective guidance programs.

This event was mandatory for students enrolled in the Concentration in Criminal Law for Children and Women (Regular Undergraduate Program), Criminal Law on Women and Children (IUP Undergraduate Program), and Victimology (MIH Graduate Program). Through this activity, students are expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of the correctional system and internalize the values of restorative justice in modern criminal law practice.

This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), which emphasizes the importance of justice, legal reform, and effective institutions in building a peaceful and inclusive society. Furthermore, the themes of social reintegration and rehabilitation for prisoners are also linked to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), as they focus on empowering vulnerable groups—including women and children—within the legal system. Thus, this public lecture not only strengthens students’ academic capabilities but also supports national efforts toward a more humane, inclusive, and socially just criminal justice system.

Senin (27/10/2025), Departemen Hukum Pidana Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) menyelenggarakan kuliah umum bertema “Peran Balai Pemasyarakatan (BAPAS) dalam Sistem Kemasyarakatan”.
