The Department of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), in collaboration with the Legal Directorate of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI), is organizing a national seminar titled \u201cBuilding Maritime Resilience: Strategies for Addressing Maritime Threats and Conflicts.\u201d The seminar was held on Friday (October 24, 2025) in Room 5.1.1 at FH UGM, both in-person and online via Zoom Meeting. The event opened with remarks from the Chair of the Department of International Law at FH UGM, Prof. Dr. Agustinus Supriyanto, S.H., M.Si., as well as remarks from the Director of Legal Affairs at Bakamla RI, First Admiral Fenny Akwan, S.H., M.H.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seminar featured H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, S.H., LL.M., Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as the keynote speaker on the topic \u201cThe Potential Escalation of Conflicts at Sea: Indonesia\u2019s Strategy and Opportunities for Refining International Maritime Law.\u201d In his presentation, Arif emphasized the importance of maritime legal diplomacy and international cooperation in maintaining stability in the maritime region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first session, Dr. Iur. Damos Dumoli Agusman, S.H., M.A., the Indonesian Ambassador to Austria and Slovenia, discussed strengthening maritime security and defense through diplomacy. The second session featured Colonel Abriadi from the Legal Directorate of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) and Prof. Dr. Marsudi Triatmodjo, S.H., LL.M., Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), who presented on current issues regarding the regulation of Maritime Autonomous Vehicles (MAVs). The event was attended by academics, practitioners, and students eager to deepen their understanding of maritime law and maritime geopolitics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organization of this National Seminar reflects the shared commitment of the UGM Faculty of Law and Bakamla RI to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, particularly SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Through discussions on maritime resilience and the strengthening of international maritime law, this event promotes the protection of marine ecosystems while ensuring that the management of maritime zones is conducted peacefully, fairly, and in accordance with the principles of international law. This seminar also contributes to SDG 13: Climate Action, as maritime security issues are closely linked to environmental sustainability and the mitigation of ecological risks at sea. Furthermore, the synergy among academics, government agencies, and diplomats demonstrated in this forum reflects the implementation of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, where cross-sectoral collaboration is key to strengthening peaceful, resilient, and sustainable global maritime governance.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
