This year’s competition featured the subtheme “Charting a Course to Resolution: Navigating the Legal Labyrinth of Damaged Goods,” which challenged participants to analyze legal issues in transportation and insurance, specifically regarding the liability of transportation companies for damage to goods resulting from the negligence of third parties such as stevedores and onward carriers.

In the competition, participants were not only required to write legal opinions but also to present them in person before a panel of judges, just as legal consultants do when providing professional advice to clients. The UGM delegation stood out through logical arguments, comprehensive legal analysis, and the ability to systematically integrate national, regional, and international legal norms. Their in-depth understanding of the Indonesian legal framework and their precise approach to dispute resolution were key strengths highly appreciated by the judges.

This achievement demonstrates the UGM Faculty of Law’s consistent track record in producing students who excel academically while remaining adaptable to the dynamics of global law. Shelina and Dhea’s success reinforces UGM’s reputation as an institution that encourages students to think critically, argue ethically, and devise innovative legal solutions in the context of international business and policy.

In addition to strengthening academic achievements, this accomplishment also aligns with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through legal reasoning that supports fair, transparent, and equitable business practices, the FH UGM delegation contributes to strengthening sustainable economic governance and creating a legal ecosystem that protects the interests of both the public and the business community.

Author: Delegation of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM)

Dua mahasiswa Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada, Shelina Theodora dan Dhea Praja Gupta, berhasil meraih Juara 2 Kompetisi Legal Opinion dalam ajang The 15th Business Law Competition: Piala Hafni Sjahruddin 2025 yang diselenggarakan oleh Fakultas Hukum Universitas Indonesia pada tanggal 10–11 Oktober 2025.
