A delegation from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) won second place in the 2025 Exodus Legal Competition, organized by the PMK Academic Research Center at the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University. The delegation consisted of two FH UGM students from the class of 2023: Shelina Theodora, the delegation chair, and Rizqi Amanah Dwi Sulistyowati, a member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition, which took place from July to August 2025, tested participants\u2019 ability to draft a legal opinion and defend it in a presentation during the final round held on September 20, 2025. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cLegal Challenges and Countermeasures Against Deepfakes in the Era of Cybercrime in Indonesia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case study highlights the urgency of the deepfake issue, which is often misused for manipulative purposes, including market manipulation through the dissemination of manipulated videos that can cause public panic and harm investors\u2019 interests. In their work, the team analyzed the application of various legal instruments, including the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law), the Capital Market Law (Pasmod Law), and the Criminal Code (KUHP). These arguments were supported by academic literature reviews and direct interviews with legal practitioners to provide an analysis relevant to the needs of the business world and investor protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the final round, the UGM Faculty of Law delegation presented the results of its analysis before the panel of judges and successfully secured second place. It is hoped that this achievement will strengthen the UGM Faculty of Law\u2019s reputation in national legal competitions and serve as an inspiration for other law students to continue honing their skills, innovating, and making tangible contributions to the development of law in the digital age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This achievement aligns with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, as it promotes transparency, accountability, and public access to information as part of the fulfillment of human rights. Furthermore, this achievement also supports SDG 4: Quality Education, as scientific competitions serve as a means to develop students\u2019 academic capacity and analytical skills. Through collaboration among students, faculty advisors, and competition organizers, this initiative also reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening cooperation in fostering an academic culture characterized by integrity and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
