Sabutu (June 28, 2025), Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR), Ph.D.<\/strong>, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), served as a speaker at a public discussion titled \u201cWomen\u2019s Narratives in National Development\u201d<\/em> held at the Kaliurang Literacy Room. This event was part of the series of activities titled \u201cA Week with Bung Besar\u201d<\/em>, which revisited Sukarno\u2019s ideas on women\u2019s emancipation through his work Sarinah<\/em>. Sri Wiyanti\u2019s presence underscored FH UGM\u2019s role in mainstreaming gender equality as a vital component of Indonesia\u2019s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the discussion, Sri Wiyanti highlighted the various challenges still faced by Indonesian women, ranging from the rise in child marriage rates following the pandemic, discrimination through hundreds of local regulations, to the feminization of poverty, which makes women more economically vulnerable. According to her, this situation demonstrates that development that is not gender-responsive will only exacerbate social inequality. She emphasized the need for legal and social policies that prioritize women, as well as active civil society participation to advance the equality agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also featured Fanda Puspitasari<\/strong> and was moderated by Wasingatu Zakiyah<\/strong>. The presence of academics, activists, and members of the general public made this discussion both a space for reflection and a strategic forum for strengthening the role of women in national development. Through a dialogue that brought together diverse perspectives, the event enriched participants\u2019 understanding of Sukarno\u2019s legacy and its relevance to Indonesia\u2019s current context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This forum aligns with the global commitments of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong>. First, SDG 5 (Gender Equality)<\/strong>, which emphasizes the importance of eliminating discrimination and promoting women\u2019s roles in both public and domestic spheres. Second, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)<\/strong>, through advocacy for fairer policies for vulnerable groups, including poor women and minorities. Third, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)<\/strong>, by strengthening the rule of law that protects women\u2019s rights. Through the active role of Sri Wiyanti, the Faculty of Law at UGM affirms itself as an academic center that continues to bridge critical scholarship with an inclusive sustainable development agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
