The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), through the Master of Legal Studies (MIH) program, successfully held the second day of New Student Orientation for the 2025\/2026 academic year on Thursday (August 14, 2025). The event took place in person in Room V.1.1 and the Auditorium of Building B at FH UGM, attended by all new MIH students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This orientation was designed to introduce the learning system, curriculum, academic and non-academic policies, and the academic culture of FH UGM. Additionally, the event aimed to introduce the facilities of the FH UGM Library and online research skills through workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the second day of the event, the main focus was on a discussion of online legal research presented by two experts: Rangga A. Dachlan, S.H., LL.M., M.Phil., D.Phil., and Dr. Rikardo Simarmata, S.H. This session not only provided technical insights into online legal research methods but also emphasized the importance of academic adaptation to advancements in digital technology within legal education. Additionally, participants received an introduction to the Tridharma of Higher Education as the primary foundation for academic activities at UGM, the current policies on the prevention and handling of sexual violence on campus, and an orientation on library services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a special library orientation session, the organizers invited Arif Surachman, S.I.P., MBA., who serves as the Head of the UGM Library and Archives, to provide an in-depth presentation on the facilities, service systems, and literature resources available to students. The event was further enriched by a campus tour led by the Master of Law Student Association (KMMIH). This campus tour invited participants to get to know the UGM Faculty of Law Library and the UGM Central Library more closely. Through this activity, students are expected not only to understand the library\u2019s function as a reference center but also to make the most of it as a space for learning, research, and academic development during their studies at UGM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to introducing the educational system and academic culture on campus, this event also serves as an important means of supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This orientation program aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing access to high-quality legal education, as well as SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by encouraging the active participation of faculty and students from diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, this orientation supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by providing equal opportunities for all students, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by instilling the values of justice, integrity, and transparent academic governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
