The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) successfully held the Inaugural Graduate Lecture as part of the New Student Orientation for the Fall Semester of the 2025\/2026 Academic Year on Friday (August 15, 2025), which took place in the Auditorium of Building B at FH UGM. This event was attended by all new students in the Master\u2019s and Doctoral programs at the UGM Faculty of Law.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s inaugural lecture addressed the theme \u201cExploring the Legal Education Curriculum to Foster Legal Professionals of Integrity in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.\u201d This theme was chosen in response to the challenges posed by digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI), which are increasingly influencing the development of law and the judicial system in Indonesia and around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This inaugural lecture featured several speakers who provided in-depth perspectives on the development of legal education in the era of artificial intelligence. Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., opened the session by discussing \u201cThe Gadjah Mada Spirit in the Digital Age,\u201d emphasizing the importance of upholding UGM\u2019s values amid the rapid pace of technological transformation. Next, Prof. Dr. RR. Siti Murtiningsih, S.S., M.Hum., elaborated on the ethical aspects of using artificial intelligence in legal education, stressing that technology must always align with moral values and humanitarian goals. The presentation continued with Dr. Danrivanto Budhijanto, S.H., LL.M. in IT Law, FCBArb., FIIArb., who discussed both the opportunities and challenges of cyber law in the legal profession, particularly regarding the legal implications of digital technology advancements. The final session was presented by Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., who discussed the challenges facing the legal curriculum in adapting to a digital society and the importance of updating teaching methods to better adapt to the changing times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entire series of sessions concluded with an interactive discussion with participants, which provided students with an opportunity to ask questions and explore critical issues surrounding the curriculum, ethics, technology, and the legal profession in the digital age. As the culmination of the new student orientation series, this inaugural lecture reaffirmed the UGM Faculty of Law\u2019s commitment to equipping students with legal knowledge relevant to the changing times, while remaining grounded in the values of justice, ethics, and integrity. This activity also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through inclusive and visionary academic collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the holding of this inaugural lecture, the UGM Faculty of Law reaffirms its strategic role as one of Indonesia\u2019s leading legal education institutions that continues to adapt to technological developments, while remaining committed to producing legal professionals of integrity who are outstanding and ready to compete at the global level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
