The delegation consisted of five students: Nathan Radot Zudika Parasian Sidabutar, Melli Ria Basana Hutagalung, Jessica Arundatu Setiawan, Nurul Faizah Al Ma’daniah, and Irawan Sapto Aji.

The competition took place from Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the LAPS SJK office in Jakarta and was attended by delegations from various universities across Indonesia. The competition was structured with preliminary and final rounds, in which participants were required to prepare a competition dossier containing both formal and substantive documents throughout the entire mediation process. Participants were then asked to conduct a mediation simulation upon advancing to the finals.

Through this event, participants learned how mediators identify the issues and interests of the parties when drafting meeting minutes, deliberation records, and other substantive documents. These skills are essential for mediators to find a compromise acceptable to both sides. Participants also learned how to prepare formal documents such as special powers of attorney, summonses for the parties, witnesses, and experts, as well as various other letter formats required in the mediation process.

LAPS SJK adopted the theme “Consumer Protection in Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Financial Services Sector to Achieve Legal Certainty and Substantive Justice” and presented a case on insurance. During the case preparation phase, the delegates studied the rights and obligations of insurance companies and consumers, as well as the principles of an ideal insurance system. The simulation process served as both the culmination and the final presentation of the case files that had been carefully prepared by each delegation.

This competition not only provided achievements and experience but also raised awareness that, amid dynamic legal developments, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is becoming an increasingly relevant option for the public. This is due to the advantages of ADR, which are time-efficient, maintain confidentiality, and are peace-oriented.

The success of the UGM Faculty of Law team in this competition contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Through the application of effective mediation techniques, participants helped strengthen peaceful and inclusive dispute resolution mechanisms in the financial services sector. This competition also supports SDG 4 on Quality Education by providing a contextual learning experience that connects legal theory with real-world practice. Furthermore, the collaboration between students, advisors, and the organizing institution reflects the spirit of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.

Penulis: Delegasi Business Law Community

Tim delegasi Fakultas Hukum Universitas Gadjah Mada yang diampu oleh Business Law Community (BLC) berhasil meraih Juara 3 dalam Kompetisi Mediasi tingkat nasional yang diselenggarakan oleh LAPS SJK dalam rangkaian acara LAPS SJK Law Fair 2025.
