The competition took place from Tuesday, June 3, 2025, through Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the LAPS SJK office in Jakarta and was attended by delegations from various universities across Indonesia.

The competition consisted of a preliminary round and a final round. The preliminary round began with the release of the case scenario and a technical meeting. Delegations were required to analyze and formulate solutions based on the case scenario and present them in a competition brief. During the drafting process, the delegations conducted research with various practitioners and academics. Subsequently, the competition briefs were submitted online via email on Monday, July 14, 2025, followed by the evaluation process. The five teams with the highest scores will advance to the final round, which will be held at the LAPS SJK Office in Jakarta.

In the final round, participants presented a simulated mediation session and underwent a question-and-answer session with the panel of judges. Each team member took on the roles of mediator, petitioner, respondent, and legal counsel for both parties. The competition concluded with a closing ceremony and the announcement of the winners. The ALSA LC UGM delegation won second place and the Best Document award. Through this competition, participants were able to embody the pillars of “Legally Skilled and Academically Committed” by honing their legal communication and negotiation skills, as well as their understanding of non-litigious dispute resolution in the financial services sector in an applied and contextual manner.

The success of the ALSA LC UGM delegation in this mediation competition also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Through practical mediation simulations, participants contributed to expanding access to justice and strengthening mechanisms for peaceful, swift, and fair dispute resolution in the financial services sector. This activity also aligns with SDG 4 on Quality Education, as it provides contextual learning that integrates legal theory with professional practice. Furthermore, the collaboration between students, academics, practitioners, and dispute resolution institutions reflects the implementation of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.

Author: ALSA LC UGM

Kompetisi mediasi tingkat nasional merupakan bagian dari rangkaian LAPS SJK Law Fair (LLF) 2025 yang
