A delegation from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), part of the Business Law Community, achieved a remarkable feat by winning First Place and the Best Contract award at the Contract Drafting and Negotiation Competition held as part of the Trisakti Business Law Fair III 2025, organized by the Faculty of Law at Trisakti University. The delegation consisted of six students\u2014Shelina Theodora, Dhea Praja, Maytri Gestart Ignasius, Anika Minerva Pramono, Afanin Fariq Fajriya, and Rachma Ananda Sulaiman\u2014all of whom are members of the 2023 cohort at FH UGM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This competition tested participants\u2019 ability to draft comprehensive business contracts and conduct negotiation simulations based on real-world cases in the field of business law. This year\u2019s theme was \u201cInvestment Dynamics in Mass Transit Infrastructure Development: Achieving Legal Resilience and Commercial Risk Mitigation.\u201d The case study focused on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme for the development of the Bandung\u2013Yogyakarta high-speed rail project, which serves as a continuation of the Jakarta\u2013Bandung high-speed rail project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In drafting the contract, the delegation team was challenged to design an agreement between the Directorate General of Railways, representing the government, and PT Nusantara China Railworks, acting as the Implementing Entity. The contract was designed with an emphasis on the principle of balanced risk sharing, clarity of clauses, and compliance with legal and technical requirements in accordance with best practices. A series of thorough preparations were carried out, including literature reviews and direct interviews with academics and practitioners experienced in PPP-based infrastructure projects. The final stage of the competition concluded with a contract negotiation simulation that tested each delegation\u2019s strategic, communication, and teamwork skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This achievement is a true reflection of the competence, perseverance, and strategic collaboration demonstrated by the delegates in addressing complex business law challenges. It is hoped that this achievement will inspire other law students to continue developing their skills in contract drafting and negotiation competitions, as well as to take an active role in shaping a legal system that adapts to industry dynamics. Moving forward, may this contribution serve as a stepping stone toward broader participation at both the national and international levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a form of contribution to the global agenda, this achievement aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education through the enhancement of students\u2019 academic and professional skills, SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth through the strengthening of legal competencies in the business and investment sectors, and SDG 17 on partnerships to achieve the goals, as reflected in the collaboration between academics, practitioners, and industry. This achievement serves as tangible proof that higher education can play an active role in promoting legal literacy, fostering innovation in business contracts, and strengthening the governance of sustainable strategic projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
